It is hard to describe the Ig Nobel Prize and the lectures of the price winners in particular - you need to experience it.

The award ceremony takes place every year in a blaze of publicity at a great gala ceremony at Harvard University, USA, and is orchestrated by the founder of the prize, Marc Abrahams.

The Ig Nobel Prize highlights ten research results of the year that are exceptionally creative, unlikely and bizarre, though still serious. To put it in another way: The prize is awarded to "peculiar research" that initially makes us laugh and afterwards gives us food for thought.

The prize covers a wide range of sciences, yet with the main emphasis on natural science, medicine, and social science. In general, the prizes are given to respected and serious research that has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

The evening begins with a short lecture from the founder, Marc Abrahams, who will talk about the prize, the ceremony at Harvard University and some of the recent prize winners and their research "which neither can or should be repeated". Later on, three Ig Nobel Prize winners will explain and perhaps demonstrate their prize-winning achievements:

• Mariska Kret and Eliska Prochazkova, Leiden University, the Netherlands - for seeking and finding evidence that when new romantic partners meet for the first time, and feel attracted to each other, their heart rates synchronize.
• The research won The Ig Nobel Applied Cardiology Prize in 2022.
• Jonathan Williams, Dr. and professor at Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Mainz, Germany - for chemically analyzing the air inside movie theaters, to test whether the odors produced by an audience reliably indicate the levels of violence, sex, antisocial behavior, drug use, and bad language in the movie the audience is watching.
• The research won The Ig Nobel Chemistry Prize in 2021.
• C.W. (Kees) Moeliker, biologist and director of the Natural History Museum, Rotterdam, Netherlands - for documenting the first scientifically recorded case of homosexual necrophilia in the mallard duck.
• The research won The Ig Nobel Biology Prize in 2003.

Cornelis Vreeswijk var en legende - og ikke kun i den hollandsk-fødte troubadours adopterede hjemland, Sverige. Han var poet, sangskriver, samfundskritiker - og pænt umådeholdende i forhold til kærlighed, alkohol og stoffer.

Magnus Gertten (som havde stor succes med sin film om Björn Afzelius, 'Tusen bitar') behersker virkelig kunsten at blotlægge en artist gennem dennes værk og liv. 'Cornelis Vreeswijk: Nogle går rundt i udtrådte sko' er en både filmisk og musikalsk oplevelse - med Cornelis' stemme som bærende element. Filmen kommer vidt omkring i sin mangefacetterede hovedpersons univers - naturligvis med stærkt fokus på hans sympati for og kærlighed til samfundets mest udsatte.

Udspiller sig på et krydstogtskib på vej mod Caribien. Nanna har inviteret sin datter Cille og hendes bedste veninde med på et krydstogt for at fejre Cilles 18-års fødselsdag.

Forventningerne er høje, og de har store planer for dagene om bord på krydstogtet. Men allerede første nat forvandles deres drømmeferie til et mareridt, da Cille bliver fundet, udsat for et overgreb. Chokeret indser Nanna, at hun selv må agere, for at sikre at retfærdigheden sker fyldest. Filmen er et intenst drama om en mors vedholdende søgen efter retfærdighed og sin datters kærlighed.

En aften i en mennesketom boligblok i London møder Adam (Andrew Scott) den gådefulde Harry (Paul Mescal), som vender op og ned på hans hverdag.

Der opstår et forhold mellem dem, men Adam er svært optaget af fortidens minder og drages tilbage til sit barndomshjem i forstæderne, hvor hans forældre (Claire Foy og Jamie Bell) ser ud til at bo, som de gjorde, inden de døde for 30 år siden.

Onsdag d. 13. mart kl. 17.00 er der spaghettigudstjeneste for børn og deres familier. Korbørnene synger, der er nadver og efter en halvtimes tid går vi i sognehuset, hvor frivillige står klar med spaghetti til aftensmad.

Det hele slutter, så alle kan nå hjem til de mindstes sengetid. Børn spiser gratis, mens voksne betaler 25 kr. Der er ingen tilmelding.

Maj My opfordrer til, at vi tager livet i vores egne hænder, og skaber en hverdag, der giver mening for den enkelte. Det gjorde Maj My og hendes mand for mere end 10 år siden, da de flyttede ud af storbyen, og skruede ned for deres arbejdstid, mens de skruede op for nærværet og de aktive valg.

Maj My maner til mod og omtanke i en tid, hvor både børn, unge og voksne rammes af stress, angst og ensomhed som aldrig før. Hun taler om at trække en streg i sandet, åbne øjnene og vælge livet til fremfor at lade det glide ud mellem hænderne, mens timer, uger og i sidste ende år forsvinder i travlhed og en navnløs længsel efter et ubekendt "mere".

Gennem knivskarpe analyser af de normer der former hverdagen for de fleste af os og humoristiske historier fra sit eget liv, tør Maj My vende vores mest indgroede vaner på hovedet. Hun kaster alt det, som vi tror er nødvendigt for at leve et godt liv op i luften, og stiller det simple men svære spørgsmål: "Hvad vil du gerne kunne se tilbage på, når du en dag skal herfra?"

Det er ikke et foredrag om hverken at flytte ud på en ø eller at gå på deltid. Det er et foredrag om, hvor meget mennesker kan, når vi tør tro på os selv og følge vores mavefornemmelse. Og om hvad vi med sikkerhed ikke fortryder den dag vi skal herfra.

Arrangementet er et samarbejde mellem Skanderborg Kommunes Biblioteker og Ry Højskole.
