Open Folk Culture Workshop: Old traditions and renewal Come and join us for the Maypole festival. The Maypole ritual is an old fertility ritual. Many people probably know it best from Sweden, but there is also an old Danish tradition. tradition
We will sing and dance, make skits, songs and singing games that have always been part of the story, and then we will sing and dance songs and games that are about insects and crawling. Some are traditional singing games and skits that have been adapted to be about insects.
You build up to the party together. Partly by decorating the maypole and raising it. Partly by learning songs and dances that we will use for the ritual and partly by making insects and small creatures that can decorate around the maypole.
During the day there will be time to put the little ones to bed for an afternoon nap, drink coffee and eat cake, play and sing, dance and hear stories on the grass in Broby Gamle Skole's beautiful garden.
At 6 pm there is a communal meal and after the meal we continue with singing, dancing and music.
