Visit the Iron Age blacksmith and try swinging the big hammer yourself!
In the Iron Age Countryside Village of Odin's Odense, you can try your hand at forging this Easter. You must be 10 years old to swing the hammer - but everyone is welcome to come in and see what the blacksmith is doing. Maybe you can help pull the bellows while your big sister or brother forges a beautiful troll cross. Parents are also welcome to help
We have ten places each on the following days: Sunday 13/4, Good Friday 18/4 and Easter Sunday 20/4. Forging will take place from 11 am to 1 pm and again from 2 pm to 3 pm. It costs 50 kr. to try forging and takes about 15-30 min. per child.
A troll cross is a small piece of jewelry. The troll cross is said to have been worn as an amulet since the Viking Age. It is believed that it was supposed to protect the wearer from trolls and other dangers. The amulet was also worn by pregnant women to protect their unborn child from evil and magic. The troll cross is shaped like the rune O. So maybe it is the god Odin from Norse mythology who helps protect the one who wears a troll cross?
In the Middle Ages, the troll cross was used to protect their livestock, especially cows. So that the cows could not be bewitched and they stopped giving milk - or the milk inexplicably turned sour.
Throughout the Easter holidays, April 12-21, from 10 am to 4 pm, it is possible to visit the Iron Age village and explore the reconstructed houses. Here you can experience for yourself how people lived 1000-2000 years ago. You can also go on a rune hunt, try our games and board games from ancient times or perhaps rent an exciting basket with various activities for the whole family. The basket contains, among other things: materials and instructions for grinding flour on an original push mill from the Iron Age, skeining a couple of beautiful bracelets made of wool yarn in many colors and playing cozy board games - yes, even a game where you have to throw bones!
In our small shop you can buy unique, handmade household and gift items as well as coffee, ice cream, books and much more
