A Musical about Freedom and Democracy. In 2026, the Jutland Music Theatre in Silkeborg will present a newly written Danish musical: "The White Stone Group - A Musical about Freedom and Democracy."
The musical about the Hvidsten Group tells the story of a group of brave Danes who, during World War II, risked everything to protect - not just themselves - but the freedom and democracy of future generations.The ambition is to create a musical dramatic narrative that conveys this strong story with respect and empathy - in a modern musical format with newly composed music.Director Thomas Agerholm says: "It has always been a great pleasure for me to develop new musicals at Jysk Musikteater in collaboration with Musical Silkeborg.The idea of ??creating a performance based on the history of the Hvidsten Group - a story about courage, unity and the fight for freedom - is both important and touching.I have previously directed the performances of Michael Drewsen and Asger Jorn - both with strong local roots in Silkeborg's history.That we are now taking the next step and creating a performance with roots in Danish history feels like a natural and meaningful development. Many of the same dedicated forces are behind the project, and it provides a solid foundation.It is a demanding process to develop new musicals from scratch, and I have no doubt that the musical about the Hvidstengruppen will be our most ambitious project to date.We have great ambitions, and I am convinced that this performance will be a present, moving and exciting experience for the audience.I look forward to the work of bringing this powerful story to the stage and creating a performance that speaks to both the heart and our shared history. HVIDSTENGRUPEN -A musical drama about the fight for freedom and democracyThe performance is based on a wide range of sources, including Axel Holm's book from 1945, and the accounts of the Hvidsten group, which are well described in both a historical and artistic context.The script was developed in collaboration with the Fiil Family and the East Jutland Museum. The production bears no resemblance to the film '. Hvidstengruppen' (Denmark, 2012), which is a different format and concept.The Hvidstensgruppen - A Musical about Freedom and Democracy - will be presented for the first time at the premiere on October 17, 2026 at JYSK MUSIC THEATRE in Silkeborg. In 2021 we were behind the premiere of the Musical DREWSEN, in 2024 we premiered - Asger Jorn - Wild Love and Free Art - with great artistic and audience successIn 2025, Jysk Musikteater will be the home of the premiere of a new version of The Pillars of the Earth based on Ken Follett's bestselling novel.Production and local roots Bandmaster Henrik Svenning heads the team that produces musicals at JYSK MUSIC THEATRE.A sharp team of professionals in key positions ensures a high quality of the scenic realization of the projects.In addition, we see ourselves as an important part of talent development on the musical scene in Denmark with the many participating volunteer amateurs.A staff of more than 150 volunteers, a handful of professionals and involvement from 80 local businesses ensure a strong local anchoring of the project.
