Picture lecture and story by Mikael Sylvest In the 1900s, Denmark underwent a strong development, both with regard to school conditions and in general. Children went to school for much longer, large differences between town and country were leveled out.
Blistrup Parish has been growing at varying rates throughout the century. The ambition of the lecture is to show how all these trends meet and unfold in the parish's schools. We look at the development of schooling in Denmark during the period, at pedagogy and at the development of subjects and their importance. The major reforms of the century will also be covered, along with the importance of the church for the school.Locally, the parish's school buildings are presented: the equestrian schools in Blistrup, Smidstrup and Bannebjerg, the central school in Blistrup, the 'new' school in Udsholt and the high school in Helsinge. School conditions in the early 1900s and during World War II are touched upon. The 1960s were a special time of growth in the parish and the students had many opportunities to continue elsewhere when the 7th grade was completed in Blistrup; this will be described. The story is spiced up with portraits of some of the school leaders. The speaker Mikael Sylvest grew up in Hesselbjerg and went to primary school in Blistrup - like his father Ole, aunt Birte, grandmother Ellen-Margrethe and grandfather Ejnar before him. There will be a collection of various school items, mostly books and class photos.
