On the shores of Odesa in Southern Ukraine lies the imposing Kuyalnik Sanatorium, a crumbling Soviet era health facility that's seen better days. Over a summer season, the ever-dwindling guests come for the rejuvenating mud treatments and strange electroshock therapies, in search of love, healing, and happiness. Despite the airstrikes close by, there's something about the pastel pink and lime green halls of the sanatorium that keeps pulling people back. Maybe it's the hope of rejuvenation or maybe it's something hidden in the mud. The film captures a rare and intimate perspective on everyday life during wartime, shaped by resilience, human connection, and the hope of renewal. Director Gar O'Rourke was first drawn to the sanatorium during the COVID years, when the idea of a "reset" and rebirth became central to his thinking. Through engagement with the place and its people, even after the full-scale invasion, the film captures a sun-soaked, almost utopian atmosphere that stands in stark contrast to the war unfolding nearby. From the producer's perspective, this movie "shows Ukrainians trying their best to enjoy a brief moment of relaxation and enjoyment in their lives. It's a film where we see Ukrainians laugh, dance, sing, play, and forge new friendships".
