It took just two novels, almost 20 years apart, to turn a middle-aged professor of Old English into one of the most beloved, best-selling and most reviled authors of the 20th century. His name was J.R.R. Tolkien.
But where did John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1892-1973) get the inspiration for The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and what has made his universe so influential everywhere from literature to role-playing games to films and television series?Come on a tour of Tolkien's world with one of Denmark's leading Tolkien experts.
This year marks 25 years since Peter Jackson made The Lord of the Rings a household name, and we can't let that go unnoticed! It must be celebrated. And we're doing that at Solrød Library and Cultural Center with a visit from Jakob Levinsen.
Jakob Levinsen (b. 1960) is a writer, translator and critic.He has, among other things, translated Tolkien's The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun and Arthur's Fall, retranslated The Hobbit, completed the Danish translation of The Lord of the Rings and most recently published Tolkien and His World himself.
So come along for an exciting evening in the world of fantasy. It's sure to be magical!
