Read Paolo's musical story here:

Paolo Russo was born in 1969 in Pescara, an Italian city by the Adriatic Sea, where he lived for 26 years, when - after several musical experiences in Italy and abroad (London, Paris, New York) - he decided to move to Copenhagen, the city of his dreams, where he lived between 1996 and 2020.

Despite growing up in a family of non-musicians, somehow his parents noticed his interest for music and agreed to introduce him to studying the piano at the age of nine. The piano became his first musical instrument, on which he obtained two diplomas, in classical music in Italy in 1993, and in jazz music in Denmark in 2002.

However, the biggest thrill was yet to come, when aged 31, during his first trip to Buenos Aires for a musical project with the Copenhagen Conservatory, he came across the live sound of a bandoneon for the first time: it was like a shock for him and he was captivated and immediately in love. Back in Denmark, obsessed with this experience (he dreamed for four consecutive nights of playing this instrument on the stage of a wonderful concert hall for a large and attentive audience), after a long research, he managed to buy for himself a bandoneon

"Sometimes dreams come true," he thought, when years later he found himself on the main stage of the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City, together with a wonderful Danish youth orchestra, in front of an audience of about 2000 people, ready to perform with his bandoneon
In the past 30 years, his musical activities have taken him around the world with numerous established musicians of the international jazz, tango and pop scene, but on the other hand he has always cultivated a profound interest for the composition and production of his own music.

He has released 20 albums so far as a soloist and/or band leader (or co-leader), and collaborated on over 50 record productions with various artists. The continued use of both instruments (piano and bandoneon) allows him to display a wide and varied form of expression, capturing the audience through his brilliant live performances. Together with his wife Katrine, he moved in 2020 to the beautiful island of Møn, South of Copenhagen, where they both found renewed inspiration in the lovely natural countryside's surroundings, with great benefit for the creative aspect of life.
