Scotland in the United Kingdom: Past, Present & Future

Why did Scotland vote to stay in the United Kingdom? This presentation will put the formation of the UK into a historical context, before examining what Scotland gained from the union, and why it has come under increasing pressure. We will then look at the 2014 independence referendum, and why the result fell the way it did. We will close by looking at the current position and possibilities for the future.

Neil Smith is a Scottish lawyer. He has followed the Scottish political debate his entire life and wrote his university dissertation on the constitutional setup of the Scottish parliament. In his professional life, Neil co-owns a business advising on inward investment, and lectures students on finance and leadership.

The lecture start at 18:00 and at 20:00 The Pipers Club takes over. The admission fee covers both arrangements.
