On Unity of Ukraine Day, join us for the discussion on the changes in Ukrainian society over the last 30 years.
Our guest speaker is Tymofii Brik, Ukrainian sociologist and Rector of the Kyiv School of Economics, and National Coordinator of the European Social Survey (2022-2026). From 2019 to 2023, he held visiting positions at Stanford University, New York University, and Northwestern University.
In his talk, he will present sociological data from multiple sources to examine Ukrainian society before and during the war with Russia. Data on trust, values, identities, and political attitudes portray Ukraine as a complex and transforming society striving toward democracy and EU integration. This lecture explores the European Social Survey as well as some national data sources. While some indicators reveal polarization, others point to convergence. The lecture explores why Ukraine has proven resilient during the war, drawing on perspectives from local governance, historical legacies, and national identity.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Nataliia Popovych, Chairperson of Ukraine House in Denmark.
